News, recent projects, performances & travels

Hello friends, fans & colleagues...

I have just completed yet another tour with William Yang playng "SHADOWS" and some solo concerts in the USA. Recent times have been rich with travels and performing: Reunion Island, New York, France, Switzerland, and Australia; composing music for theatre and circus projects, giving concerts, making new instruments.

In October Yilan Yeh and I premiered our new work "transience #1 immersive performance events" in the Japanese Gardens of Gosford Regional Art Gallery. The first in what we want to become an ongoing series of live music & video projection environmental events. It was an intimate spectacle rich with detail and nuance and very well received. The garden transformed into a living organism with projections of fish, train tracks, figures in the rain and water drenched architecture. Check out the "transience" page.

Transience #1 featured the wonderful guitarist Chris Finnen, Paul Jarman onreeds & flutes, sound engineers Paul Dengate & Chris Miller making a floating surround sound of my music and as well as video installation,Yeh Yilan playing waterbells & frogs in the fish pond !

We hope this is the first of many versions of this work throughout the world.

IRON.ORE: Last Novemmber/December I completed a 6 week trip to Taiwan. The main focus of this journey was to create a work for the International Container Arts Festival at the Kaohsiung National Museum of Fine Arts. Kaohsiung is the 4th busiest shipping port in the world. I etched my images and text directly into the steel by drawing with an angle grinder and painting with tar and iron oxide. The rusting process was encouraged by adding water and salt and greatly enhanced by a 2 day cyclone ! The work now sits in the forecourt of the Museum and will later tour.... Photos below tell the story.

In the coming year I will be giving concerts in schools again after a five year absence. It feels great to be re-establishing my relationship with Young Australia Workshop. I am planning a return trip to Taiwan mid-year and some performances for TURA new music events in Western Australia..

Safe journey, true line… Colin Offord March 2008
